A Light Frosting

Yes, the food overload from Thanksgiving yesterday is still affecting my brain. The first snow of the season has arrived and stuck around a bit. The above photo is from yesterday morning, but most of that snow is still here. (And no, I didn't get the leaves picked up out front. That has to wait until it gets above freezing tomorrow.) In the south suburbs of Chicago, where I went for the Thanksgiving gathering, there was no snow. I'm not sure where the line is, but that area is clearly a half zone warmer than the Northwest suburbs (Zone 5b v. 5a).

No Mall for me today. I don't like shopping at the best of times, so it's a good day to stay home and regroup between Holiday activities. It's also a good time to reflect on all I have for which to be thankful. Here's a top 5, in no particular order:

1. Family and friends
2. Health
3. The rains of August
4. The opening of a new trail connecting a park and forest preserve property
5. My digital camera. I got it for Christmas last year. It's not the best camera (not even an SLR), but it's good enough. In this life, one must be satisfied with that. Put another way, by the Rolling Stones, "You can't always get what you want. And if you try sometime you find you get what you need."

It is good that you survived the big 'meal'. You have lots to be thankful for, we all do. I can't wait to have our first snow. Who knows when. My son lives in Wisconsin and they got 2 inches Thanksgving eve. I like your arbor. Do you find you have to paint it often? I have left mine natural. I hate to paint if I don't Have to.

I didn't shop today either, nothing is worth fighting the crowds over as far as I'm concerned. I used to enjoy shopping, but not really anymore, unless of course it is a garden center.

We had some snow yesterday and today too here in Indy.

Lovely arbor, lovely scene.

We had some snow (just an inch or so) in SE Iowa. North of us, they were having 5 or more inches on Thanksgiving Eve.

And, no. I don't enjoy shopping much anymore, either. (Garden centers don't count! That's not really "shopping"... ;-)

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving day. Your list makes me wish I'd spent more time on mine.

Lisa - the arbor is new. I put it up in August, but I agree with your way of doing things. I'm going to let it weather naturally, so it will match the rustic swing & the wooden fence (or what's left of it).
Robin & Shady Gardener - what is it about us gardeners that makes us so sensible? Have we gotten used to the peace & tranquility of our gardens? Most of the snow melted, so we were able to get the leaves taken care of & the front lawn mown. Now, I'm hoping for a good blanket of snow soon!

That's a nice photo~your arbor and trellis remind me of one area at Cantigny with clematis. I don't know what it looks like now - we lived in the Western 'burbs before coming to Texas and that was a favorite place.

Thanks, Annie! I hope my Clematis will look as nice as those at Cantigny. I haven't been there for a couple of years either. I used to go there often when I lived in Bartlett. I usually stop there now when I make my annual pilgrimage to The Planter's Palette. (I never made it there this past year because of gas prices & road construction.) Hopefully I'll get back there next spring.
