A Correction

I try to be accurate with the names of plants, and, thanks to Don, I now know that the name of Anemonella thalictroides has been changed to Thalictrum thalictroides. I think I ran across that name change last summer, but I forgot about it. Normally, I'd just edit the post with the incorrect plant name, but Kim's warning about feeds and publication made me realize that editing posts is akin to republishing them, so I'll try to limit my edits. I think I need to keep track of name changes in a computer file, so I can pull them up whenever they are needed, rather than my helter-skelter writing in spiral notebooks like Ignatius Reilly in John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces.

I've long ago given up on it. I try to memorize each plant name and they keep changing it. ;-)

BTW I've linked with you, I hope that's OK?

Have a great weekend!

You are all ahead of me- I don't have the memorization skills to get all the genus names. I know all the common names, I'm sure theres some rule I'm breaking. What can I say? I do get points for remembering all the kids names, birthdays, shoe sizes, basketball game dates, etc. don't I?

You won't be scolded from my corner about not knowing a proper name. I can't even remember my own best friends name under the pressure of introducing her. She is most gracious in her forgivenss.
Don't you fret about a missed call of a plant name. It is good to know these things though. I can't name when but I know it does help occasionally.

LOL@Lisa,

I'm not good with the names either but I'm particularly bad about pronouncing the latin names.

Yolanda Elisabet - thanks for the link!

Christine - Thanks for visiting! I've been accused of remembering plant names better than the names of people. I guess that makes you a better person. Latin names are very important because some common names refer to more than 1 plant, some of which are very different.

Lisa - I look on learning the new names as a challenge. 1 of my life goals is never to stop learning new things, so I'm cool with the taxonomists changing things.

Mr. Brown Thumb - if you think you're bad, you should hear my pronounciation. It's kind of a hodge-podge of Church Latin, Botanical Latin & Italian with my own personal proclivities thrown in. E.g., I pronouce Hosta as HOE-sta because I like the sound. I also try to keep the proper pronouciation of a person's name, such as HOY-ker-uh for Heuchera. I haven't encountered any garden snobs out to criticize anyone's pronounciation. I hope you never encounter any.

Oh, I edit my posts all the time. Must be excruciating! Hah!

I edit all the time and need to. I do it Garden Rant too. I hope it doesn't bother people too much, but I'm unlikely to stop. I'm an editor.

Chuck B. & EAL - thanks for the input. I guess I should keep on editing the original post if I discover errors shortly after posting. In this instance, the post featuring the plant at issue was was a couple of weeks ago, so it merited a new post.

Looks like blogger ate the comment I left on the weekend. A pity, because it was funny and supportive too. Sometimes blogger makes me crazy!

Well, thanks for the thought Jodi. This morning Blogger ate my comment on May Dreams Gardens.

Hello! I've read that hellebores don't like to be moved once they're established. Other than that, I have a lot to learn about them!

I think it's kind of fun to learn some botanical names, but there are too many to remember. I often write them on my tags... it helps a little.

As far as Blogger stuff: I have NO Idea about all the terms people use: feeds, blog lines, Google Feeder, nor do I know about using up Blogger/Picasa space. Will I eventually run out of space on my blog? Do I need to worry about any of the above?
I just really enjoy posting and peeking into other gardens from time to time. ;-)

Shady Gardener- I've started a document in Word to keep track of all the botanical name changes. Otherwise, Dave's Garden has all the names for a plant in Plant Files.
As for the blogging stuff, the concern about using up space is with photos. I now resize all my photos to about 500 pixels. (Otherwise the photos are more like 5000 pixels.) Using a Feed allows others to subscribe to your blog so that they receive notification each time there is a new post. For help with blogging go to http://www.mouseandtrowel.org/ and http://www.coldclimategardening.com/garden-blog-directory/ and http://www.yourbloghelper.com/. I hope that helps. Happy Blogging!

OMG, I edit constantly. I asked once if every time I edit, it gets sent out to everyone again, but no one had an answer for me. GACK! I must drive everyone wacky! Seriously, I don't think I've ever published a blog post without later editing it. Sometimes I edit multiple times!

Kylee - I have a hard time not correcting things once I spot them. All too often, that happens only after I've published a post!
